(In case you are wondering what I was given, the package was called "textfiles", the class was called "FileData" & "ReadFile" with "readFile" and "OpenFile" as the methods under the "ReadFile" class. Select 'Align Open sequences:' then click Align to align sequence files that are already open in SnapGene. Select 'Align copied sequence' the click Align to align a sequence that has been copied to the clipboard. If file size is between 5-15 MB, it could be an audio file. So, you should first select a video player program like Windows Media Player or VLC Player. This might also be due to virus or malware infections that eat up the information in the header necessary for the files to open. If file size is big (like hundreds of MBs) it is likely to be a video file. Ultimately, the recovered file is corrupt and not opening. Now, like I said, I have been doing quite a bit of reading and studying and I know the code I was given was crap. Select 'Align imported sequences' then click Align to browse to and select sequences for alignment. The primary cause behind a file not opening and throwing errors every time is corruption that can be either in the file header or in the file data.
I have seen this same code smattered all over the web and on here I won't be bothering y'all with that. In the Properties dialog box, look for an Unblock button near the bottom right. Right-click the file and select Properties. Ok, so, I was given a code for how to read a file in Java. You can unblock the file so it can be opened: Open Windows File Explorer (Open Start in Windows and type File Explorer.) Locate the problematic file on your computer. So, if I make a rookie mistake, keep that in mind, please. I have done a lot of reading and practicing in NetBeans but I do not have any formal training in the matter.
